Digital Dictation
Email-Ready Digital Hand-held Recorder

The Uher DH 10 is a portable digital recorder. It's ideal for recording dictation, conferences, proceedings and interviews, anywhere. The DH 10 uses industry-standard compact flash cards, so all recordings are immediately available for transcription, review, email or storage on your computer. It eliminates the hassle of cassette tapes. No moving parts.

Key Features:

  • Pocket-sized with easy-to-read display.
  • TrueSpeech technology, compatable with Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP operating systems. Uses Microsoft's Windows Media Player or its equivalent1 (see side panel for more details).
  • Record up to 8 continuous hours!
  • Standard flash cards. Forget about lost or damaged cassette recording tape.
  • Upload digitally recorded files to your computer. Here's how:

Attach an inexpensive SanDisk ImageMate external drive (parallel port or USB versions) to your computer. Insert the flash card, and Windows instantly recognizes the device as a separate drive letter. Voila, your recordings appear as files in a separate Window on your computer screen. For laptops, use an inexpensive PCMCIA adapter card for uploading from the flash card.

  • With a click of the mouse, listen to what you recorded. It's that easy! If you still aren't convinced, click here.
  • Digital recordings are just like any other computer file, so you can name it, store it, attach it or forward it. It's simply a right mouse click. Email your recorded thoughts to a friend or colleague.
  • Need to make a copy? Forget about bulky analogy tape duplicating machines. Just do a right click | copy | paste. Presto!
  • Edit dictations by deleting OR inserting without overwriting prior recordings. Try doing that with analog tape!
  • Create one, two, a dozen or up to 99 separate recorded files on one flash card. Never commingle your recordings again! Each file is date stamped and searchable.
  • Use an available external microphone for hands-free dictation or conference recording. Telephone adapters, too. Also available with a battery recharger.
  • Additional flash cards available at most computer stores. This is standard stuff!
  • DH 10 package includes digital recorder, compact flash card and carrying case.
  • Integrates with complete digital office dictation system.    Click here for more details.

1Bundled Audio Players

My good friend Oliver Brayton, who knows more than anyone I know about computers, discusses the audio features of Microsoft Windows-based computers.

A standard audio player comes bundled with every Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP operating system, including yours. The computer makes an association between the audio player and the .WAV file extension that is created by the DH 10. (All file associations can be accessed by opening Windows Explorer and clicking View | Options | File Types, but do yourself a huge favor and don't mess with these settings.)

When you launch a file with a .WAV extension, like when you click on the DH 10 picture, above, Windows opens the audio player and loads the .WAV file. Your computer's settings determine whether the audio player closes after a single playing, or loops the playback.

If you have installed another audio player (such as RealPlayer or MP3) and have made this your default audio player, then your computer associates .WAV extensions with that program, and it will launch instead.

Since Windows Media Player is bundled with the operating system, you can always access it by clicking Start | Program | Accessories | Entertainment [Multimedia] | Windows Media Player. Then you can click File | Open | Browse and select the path to the .WAV file you wish to play.
